Privacy Policy
How QuietSeat collects, uses and protects information when you use the app and website.
Overview
QuietSeat is designed to help people understand and share information about restaurant sound environments. You can use the core app as a guest, or you can create an optional QuietSeat account to keep your profile and activity across devices.
Information we collect and process
Account information. If you create an account, QuietSeat processes your email address, display name and authentication identifiers. Authentication is provided using Microsoft Entra External ID. QuietSeat does not store your email account password.
Guest identity. When you use QuietSeat without an account, the app creates a random installation identifier so that your guest profile and activity can be associated with your device. This internal identifier is not intended to directly identify you and is not displayed publicly.
Sound profile. If you create or update a sound profile, QuietSeat stores the preferences and sensitivities you choose so the service can provide more relevant venue information.
Venue activity. When you submit a quick check-in, detailed observation or other venue feedback, QuietSeat may store the venue, ratings, selections, comments and date/time associated with the submission.
Sound measurements. Detailed observations may include calculated sound statistics and limited device information needed to interpret a measurement.
Microphone and sound measurements
QuietSeat requests microphone access only when you choose to perform a sound measurement. Audio is analyzed on your device to calculate sound characteristics. QuietSeat does not retain or upload the raw microphone audio. Calculated measurement statistics may be saved when you submit an observation.
Location
Location access is optional. When permitted, QuietSeat uses your location to find and rank nearby restaurants and venues. QuietSeat does not continuously track your location in the background. Location used for nearby search may be sent to QuietSeat services and the mapping/place provider so relevant results can be returned. If you do not allow location access, you can still search for venues manually.
How we use information
QuietSeat uses information to operate the service, maintain your profile and history, personalize venue results, provide sound-comfort insights, link guest activity to an account when you register, prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems and improve the service. Venue observations may contribute to aggregated QuietSeat information shown to other users.
Service providers
QuietSeat uses third-party service providers where needed to operate the service. These include Microsoft Azure for application and data hosting, Microsoft Entra External ID for optional account authentication, and Azure Maps for mapping and place search. These providers process information only as needed to provide their services and are subject to their own privacy and security obligations.
Sharing of information
QuietSeat does not sell personal information to advertisers. We may share information with service providers that help us operate QuietSeat, when required by law, or when necessary to protect the security and integrity of the service. Public or aggregated venue insights are designed not to reveal the identity of individual contributors.
Retention
QuietSeat retains account and activity information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain legitimate operational records and meet legal obligations. Guest information may remain associated with the installation until it is linked to an account, cleared through the app, or otherwise removed as part of normal service operation.
Account deletion
If you have a QuietSeat account, you can permanently delete it directly in the app from Profile → Delete account. Account deletion removes the QuietSeat account, associated profile and user-linked activity, and the corresponding authentication identity. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. If you need help with deletion, contact support@quietseatapp.com.
Security
QuietSeat uses reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards intended to protect information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse or alteration. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
Children's privacy
QuietSeat is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to QuietSeat, contact us so we can review and remove it where appropriate.
Your choices
You can use the core app without creating an account, decline location access, choose when to use the microphone, sign out at any time, and permanently delete your account from the app. You can also contact us with privacy or data questions.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as QuietSeat evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the date shown below and provide additional notice where appropriate.
